MIMHC Announces Landmark 2026 Programme Which Will Deliver Over 100 Mental Health First Aiders Across the Mortgage Industry
08 December 2025
The Mortgage Industry Mental Health Charter (MIMHC) Foundation has unveiled its most ambitious programme to date, signalling a decisive shift from awareness to meaningful action in 2026. At the heart of this next phase is the commitment to train more than 100 accredited Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA) across the mortgage industry during the year ahead.
This landmark initiative will see fully funded, two-day MHFA training sessions delivered, with the first four sessions taking place regionally from February 2026. The programme is made possible through the generous sponsorship of Niall Stringer Foundation, whose ongoing support has been instrumental in enabling MIMHC to scale the reach and impact of its work. Further details on training dates, host regions, and participant registration will be released shortly.
Jason Berry, Co-Founder of MIMHC and Group Sales Director at Crystal Specialist Finance, commented:
“2026 marks a turning point for our industry. Awareness is important, but action changes lives. By training over 100 Mental Health First Aiders, we are equipping firms with the skills, confidence and early-intervention capability that genuinely protects wellbeing in the workplace.”
Comment from Rob Jupp, Co-Founder of MIMHC & Trustee of the Niall Stringer Foundation
“This training is deeply personal and incredibly important. As both a Co-Founder of MIMHC and a Trustee of the Niall Stringer Foundation, I’ve seen first-hand the difference early support can make when someone is struggling. The investment we are making into MHFA training represents a real step forward—one that goes beyond talking about mental health and instead gives our industry the practical tools to intervene early, support compassionately, and ultimately save lives.
The Niall Stringer Foundation is proud to stand behind this initiative, and 2026 will be the year we turn collective care into collective action.”
A Year Built Around Action, Connection and Prevention
The MHFA programme sits within a strengthened calendar of activity designed to support individuals, teams and businesses through practical, evidence-based wellbeing initiatives. Highlights of the MIMHC 2026 Wellbeing Calendar include:
- Monthly Run Club (First Thursday) – Encouraging physical wellbeing and connection across London, Manchester and expanding regions.
- Monthly Book Club – Focusing on wellbeing, leadership and personal resilience.
- Walk & Talk Month (May) – A national movement to reduce isolation and improve connection across the mortgage sector.
- Leadership & Wellbeing Webinars – Covering stress, suicide prevention, financial wellbeing, confident leadership, and more.
- Mortgage Mates/Protection Pals and MIMHC Ambassador Programme Launch (July) – Introducing positive connection between peers and commencing a “Talk to a Friend” support framework for those experiencing bereavement, addiction, illness, burnout or crisis.
- Annual MIMHC Lunch (October) – The flagship WMHD event bringing the sector together.
- MIMHC Summit (November) – A shared learning forum showcasing best practice and sector-wide collaboration.
The 2026 programme has been shaped by the insights from the 2025 MIMHC Wellbeing Survey, which saw circa 400 responses. While the data showed promising improvements in employer support and work-life balance, 22% of professionals still described their mental health as ‘poor’ or ‘of concern’, underscoring the need for early intervention and cultural change.
A Foundation Built to Serve the Industry
MIMHC recently transitioned into the MIMHC Foundation Community Interest Company, ensuring every pound raised is directed back into meaningful education, support and service for the industry. The Foundation’s mandate is clear: move beyond awareness, reduce stigma, and equip firms with the skills and structures that empower healthier workplaces.
Jason Berry added:
“This is a year of delivery. Our sector needs trained people on the ground, accessible support, and frameworks that make wellbeing a core part of how we work. MIMHC exists to serve the mortgage community as a whole, and 2026 will be our most positive, proactive and impactful year yet. I would urge any individual operating in our sector, who would like to undertake the MHFA training to contact me directly.”
